The Department of Management was established in 1970
When the Department of Commerce emerged as an independent Faculty. In fact, commerce was introduced as a separate area of study in the academic session of 1922-23, just immediately after the establishment of the University of Dhaka. The Department of Management is in the Business Studies Building, situated in a beautiful natural environment enriched with hundreds of green trees.
The vision of the Department of Management is to stand out as the premier center for management education both in Bangladesh and in the Asian region. The Department is empowered to provide teaching for the degree of BBA and MBA as per rules and regulations of the University of Dhaka. It also offers academic programs leading to the award of Doctoral degree and Master of Philosophy in addition to organizing special programs, conferences, seminars, and short courses. With a complete paradigm shift, the Department now looks towards fundamentally changing the teaching-learning methods in an endeavor to cope with the changing demands for job-oriented business education.
Following this, the department is offering different programs to enable the graduates of the Department to face the challenges in the competitive world of the new millennium. The academic Programs of the Department consist of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), regular Master of Business Administration (MBA), Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), and Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA), Master of Professional Human Resource Management (MPHRM) and Diploma and Certificate Programs. The Department has 6 classrooms, one shared exam hall with another department of the Business Faculty, one computer lab with 33 computer sets, and 26 rooms for the teachers.
STUDENTS
Almost 50 thousand students have finished their academic sessions successfully up till now and about 2,500 students, managers and executives of various levels are pursuing their studies currently and more than 30 researchers are pursuing their M. Phill, Ph.D. and DBA research and courses at present under the direct supervision of renowned professors of the Department. The graduates of this Department are playing the most important roles in the corporate world. There remain no big organizations where graduates of the Management Department are not serving, and a good number of these organizations are also owned and led by its graduates as well.
Faculty Members
The total number of faculty members of the department is 31. Three professors are on deputation and employed by the government in the positions of Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer of different public universities of the country, and two teachers are doing Ph.D. research, one in Canada and another in the United Kingdom. 10 supportive staff including two officers are working in the department. Most of the teachers of the department have Ph.D. and/or MBA degrees either from abroad or from Dhaka University and all of them have excellent teaching capacity and strong research background. Very often they are invited by renowned foreign universities for presenting papers and attending the seminars.
